Brandon Sandserson, writer of the Mistborn series and The Stormlight Archive, was approached by Ring of Elden publisher Bandai Namco regarding a future collaboration.
Speaking in a livestream earlier this week (thanks, VGC), Sanderson said he received an Elden Ring bundle from the publisher which included a cape, sword and other items based on the game as well as a note from Bandai Namco.
“They’re interested in maybe doing something together, that’s what it says,” Sanderson said. “So am I, actually. That’s how I roll: I actually have a pitch for them in the back of my head, so I might have to send them my pitch and see what they think.
Sanderson said during the stream that a land for a Soulsborne game had already been dreamed up, because it always has a “land for everything.”
“That’s the thing. Like, ‘if I ever had to make a Soulsborne game, what would I do?’ You know what happened when I thought, “I wondered what I would do if I ever wrote a Magic: The Gathering story?”
“Similarly, I thought, ‘what would I do if I made a Soulsborne kind of game?’ Obviously it’s not me who decides, is it? But I have it in mind, so maybe you’ll hear something from me. I have some ideas. I always have ideas “said Sanderson.
Best known for the fictional universe of Cosmere, in which most of his fantasy novels like the Mistborn series and The Stormlight Archive are set, outside of Cosmere, Sanderson has written several series for young adults and juveniles. These include The Reckoners, the Skyward series, and the Alcatraz series. He is also known for completing Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time and created several series of fantasy graphic novels.
If FromSoftware then works with Sanderson, it would be the second collaboration with a fantasy author, as Elden Ring was made in collaboration with novelist George RR Martin, who provided the material for the game’s setting.
