Editor’s note 5/14/22

About a month ago we announced that the newspaper you are reading now was joining View Newspaper Group.

Some of you may have wondered what kind of changes would come with this acquisition.

Today we are proud to unveil a new design for The citizen which we think readers will find interesting and easy to navigate.

What does not change is The Citizen’s commitment to providing the best coverage of local news, information about our local schools and student achievements on and off the playing fields and courts, as well only interesting stories about our local businesses and neighbors.

Our View Newspaper Group team believes so strongly in the importance and power of community newspapers that we have made it our mission to provide many of our local newspapers to anyone who wants to read them, regardless of their ability to financially support our assignment.

Since its inception 27 years ago, The Citizen has been a free-circulation newspaper in Ortonville and Goodrich and will remain so.

That said, we invite readers who wish to invest in your community to join us as a patron, regardless of your financial level. (See details on page 7).

Studies prove that the safest, most informed, happiest and healthiest communities are those with a strong local newspaper. As a Lapeer-based local newspaper company with over 250,000 copies printed each week, we have seen firsthand the power of increasing a newspaper’s footprint in a community.

Our team is honored to serve as a watchdog, source of entertainment, community partner and much more. We pride ourselves on bringing local business marketing messages to our readers, keeping the local economy strong.

Thank you for your support, both by investing your time and financially. Thank you for allowing us to enter your home. We are happy to be your community connection.
