EDITOR’S LETTER
Thank you for joining us for another packed issue of OVR. Our journey together has been an incredible one, and as we push deeper into the world of overlanding and off-road adventure, we continue to uncover the stories, vehicles, and gear that make this community thrive. On the cover this month, we feature RPM Off-Road Garage’s Toyota LC70—a truck that is far more than meets the eye. Built to tackle the toughest terrain while maintaining a clean, factory-like aesthetic, this build is sure to inspire your next adventure. Speaking of inspiring journeys, we also dive into the story of a Subaru Forester that has literally traveled the world—and it is only getting started. From Moab to Iraqi Kurdistan, this “soft-roader” has proven that adventure is a mindset as much as…

AT THE CAMPSITE
“You can’t take it with you,” the old saying goes, but that doesn’t necessarily apply to overlanding. Still, it’s sometimes necessary to pack light due to space or weight restrictions. We looked to the backpacking, bikepacking, and adventure motorcycle communities for ideas on how to be comfortable in camp without loading our vehicle to the bump stops, and this is what we came up with. 01 MSR ADVANCE PRO2 TENT MSRP: $800 URL: cascadedesigns.com/pages/msr NOTE: Read more about this on the following page. 02 MARMOT NEVER SUMMER SLEEPING BAG MSRP: $319 URL: marmot.com 03 HELINOX SUNSET CHAIRS MSRP: $170 URL: helinox.com NOTE: Read more about this on the following page. 04 ALPS MOUNTAINEERING ALUMINUM DINING TABLE MSRP: $139 URL: alpsmountaineering.com 05 PLANETARY DESIGN BRUTREK INSULATED FRENCH PRESS MSRP: $60 URL:…

ONBOARD UTILITY
Like the vehicles of most travelers, my 2014 Ram 3500 didn’t go from stock to fully outfitted overnight. Originally purchasing it in 2008 as a tow rig, I began to see the advantages of exploring in this diesel truck rather than just using it to pull other vehicles. Its fuel economy and range, the ability to fit 37-inch tires with minimal modifications, and a payload capacity that easily accepts the Four Wheel Camper make the one-ton Ram platform an ideal choice for overland travel. Starting with a Laramie-trim Ram provided heated and cooled leather seats, remote-start capability, and satellite radio that provide comfort on destinations from Anchorage to Cabo San Lucas. 01 FOUR WHEEL CAMPERS HAWK MSRP: $25,625 URL: fourwheelcampers.com 02 DMOS COLLECTIVE DELTA SHOVEL MSRP: $269 URL: dmosproshoveltools.com 03…
CRIMSON SANDS OF THE SIMPSON
The sun was slowly dipping toward the western horizon when I noticed we had a problem. I glanced over to my traveling mate and fellow journalist Ned Bacon and said, “I think our alternator just hit the skids.” He leaned over to eye the voltage gauge and replied: “Yep. Do you think it might have been all the water and deep mud you have been plowing through?” I let that sink in for a bit, keeping my smart-ass rebuttal inside my head, and suggested we make camp before it got dark and we killed the battery. Under normal circumstances a bad alternator would be but a minor inconvenience, but since leaving the metropolis of Birdsville, population 115, we had spent two days crossing 260 kilometers of sand dunes and slogging…
