LEAVE YOUR WORRIES BEHIND
Maybe it’s because of the internet and social media, or it could just be the happenings of the world in which we live, but the concerns of mental health and personal well-being seem far more prevalent recently than, say, a decade ago. Maybe I just pay more attention now? It really doesn’t surprise me that we hear more about it now because there is more access to help on the internet and dedicated hotlines that are only a phone call away. While I can imagine all of that being helpful, does it really compare to being in the moment and speaking with people one-on-one who care and are willing to listen? In this issue, you’ll find references to those helping others, and references to the most basic tenets of well-being…
Headlines 2025 Ducati XDiavel
Power cruisers were once a somewhat common occurrence in motorcycle showrooms. Their drag racinginspired styling was more aggressive than typical fender-skirted cruisers, and they incorporated sportier attributes, like bigger brakes, wider tires, and big horsepower. They have, however, largely disappeared from manufacturers’ lineups. Harley abolished the last of the V-Rod models in 2018, and the grandfather of power cruisers, the Yamaha V-Max, went the way of the dodo in 2021. Suzuki still offers the M109R, but its big V-twin is tuned less for power and more for cruising. Then there’s the Ducati XDiavel. When it was launched in 2016, it had a more powerful V-twin engine, a longer wheelbase, and a more laidback, foot-forward cruiser riding position than the Diavel, which was itself introduced in 2011. The XDiavel was the…
KTM Survives
On February 20, five days ahead of the originally scheduled date, Pierer Mobility creditors voted on an accepted restructuring plan. This will allow the company some breathing room to move forward and thus avoid insolvency. It is the first time this procedure has actually been applied after being introduced under the Austrian Restructuring Act, which came into effect in July 2021. As a result of this vote, the repayment deadline of the agreed-upon debt has been extended. Pierer Mobility has until December 31, 2026, to repay just under 70 per cent of the debt, and until December 31, 2027 to repay the balance. This represents only 30 per cent of the total 2.38 billion euros ($3.6 billion CDN) owed to creditors. The reduced amount is the minimum allowable by Austrian law…
By the Numbers
500 The size in cc of Harley-Davidson’s one and only Grand Prix race bike. The RR500 raced for a single season in the 1975 World Championship. Built in conjunction with the then Harley-Davidson subsidiary Aermacchi, the 488-cc liquid-cooled two stroke, parallel-twin produced 89 hp. 1.32 The confirmed price in millions (USD) paid for a 1915 Cyclone at Mecum Auction this past January in Las Vegas. The Cyclone will, apparently, be headed to the Legends Motorcycle Museum in Springville, UT. This is a world-record price ever paid for a motorcycle. 50 Happy birthday Gold Wing! The model that kickstarted the touring movement following its 1975 debut turns 50 years old this year with several styling touches to honour its golden anniversary. To help celebrate, the Gold Wing Tour DCT Airbag comes…
SAY WHAT?
TIMELY READING I just want to let you know that I have been a motorcyclist since 1979 and have never been without a motorcycle. I have written a few notes to the “Editor” over the years and they have been printed in your magazine — that shocked me, to say the least! And I have also sent in a favourite restaurant of mine to WTF (Where’s the Food) a few years ago that made it into an issue as well. I really, really enjoy the articles written by Clinton Smout and Misti Hurst and your daughter, Emily. She has some great stories and one that kind of blew me away just recently in the Jan./Feb. 2025 edition (Baggage Bye-Bye). So coincidental: I was reading her story about flying and losing…
WTF WHERE’S THE FOOD?
BORDER TOWN MARKET CAFE Whenever I’m at my cabin, I frequent the Border Town Market Cafe just up the road from Glen Alda, Ont. The breakfast just can’t be beat — the quality of the food, the amount, and the price. There’s fresh-baked bread, locally made jam, and all food is locally sourced. Breakfast is usually about $14 including the tip. The Border Town Market Cafe is located at 4003 Hwy 620, Apsley, Ont.…
