MG Enthusiast
May 2025MG Enthusiast, the world's best-selling MG magazine, is the long-established make-specific publication dedicated to all MGs, covering all examples from the earliest 14/40s, through the T-Types to the more familiar shapes, including the Midget and the ubiquitous MGB; and not forgetting the more contemporary mid-engined MGF and the ZR/ZS/ZT saloons and hatchbacks.
In safe hands…
Shortly before this issue of MG Enthusiast went to press, I paid a midweek visit to the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, where I caught up with its Head of Collections, Stephen Laing. We had a good chat, covering off what was happening with the MG and Rover prototypes rescued last year, plus other exhibits rescued from Longbridge in recent times, such as Lord Austin’s office, which is now a part of the museum display. One of the best things about paying a visit to Gaydon during the week, though (and not on a busy events weekend), is that you get to see it doing what it does best – which is maintaining, preserving and protecting our motoring history. On the day I was there, NUB 120, Ian Appleyard’s famous…
MGS5 EV ON THE WAY
Shortly before we went to press, MG Motor UK teased the image you see here ahead of the formal unveiling of its new mid-sized five-door EV, which replaces the outgoing MG ZS EV model. Unlike the ZS, the new model is based on the advanced chassis of the top-selling MG4 EV, and so brings a number of welcome advantages in terms of space and performance. David Allison, Head of Product and Planning for MG Motor UK, told the press: “The MGS5 EV has all the credentials to impress, a generously equipped and spacious SUV but with the all-electric performance that MG customers enjoy so much. In terms of cabin ambience and technology this model will offer a new and greatly enhanced MG experience.” Full details of the MGS5 EV will…
NEW MAN IN CHARGE IN INDIA
Last month we brought news of the latest addition to the MG range in India, accompanied by a photograph of the new model – the MG Majestor – with JSW MG Motor India MD Rajeev Chaba standing proudly alongside. Our news coverage concluded with our comment “…it is inevitable that the new investors are keen to see a fairly rapid return”. Within a matter of days from that story came the further news of a change at the top of the business, with the appointment of Anurag Mehrotra as the new Managing Director of the company. Mehrota was until recently at Ford India, but over his three-decade career he has held key leadership roles in the Indian automotive sector’s sales, marketing, strategy, and business development. Previous roles include Vice President…

MG COMET GOING DOWN A STORM
Last month we also mentioned that JSW MG Motor India’s ‘baby’ of the range, the MG Comet EV, was about to be offered in the special ‘Blackstorm’ dress-up package already available on most of the rest of the MG range on sale locally; now the company has shared the first images of the Comet Blackstorm. Alongside the so-called ‘Starry Black’ exterior, there are new badges in a dark chrome finish and the black theme is carried over in the interior, with the word ‘BLACKSTORM’ embroidered in red on the leatherette seats. Rakesh Sen, Head of Sales, JSW MG Motor India explained to us the reasoning behind this new addition to the range; “the modern-day Indian car buyers are seeking choices that are unique and is a representation of their personality.…
MG MOTOR INDIA PROCLAIMS A RECORD FOR THE CYBERSTER
At the start of the present year, JSW MG Motor India’s recently launched luxury brand channel, “MG SELECT” mounted a PR exercise to show off how impressively fast the MG Cyberster is in acceleration terms. The company set out to achieve what it referred to as “the first-ever record at Salt Lake in India” (pardon us for suspecting the list of Indian Salt Lake records in general may not be a long one). Tapping into MG’s illustrious record-breaking history, the company took a Cyberster to the dusty plains of the Sambhar Salt Lake in Rajasthan, and invited Mira Erda, the first Indian Female Racer to win internationally in Formula 4, to take the wheel. Mira then proceeded to drive the Cyberster over the desert floor, and supposedly achieved an acceleration…
