As the days start to lengthen, my thoughts turn to getting my garden beds prepped and planted. Browsing seed catalogs and gardening magazines for planting ideas inspires me to look toward brighter, floral fabrics and quilt designs like Karen Wisseman’s Lattice View on page 64. If you are more likely to sew a garden of flowers than plant one, Dresden Daisies by Textile Outpost on page 78 is for you. WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT?
I recently had a problem with a border stretching as I was stitching it. I spray-starched and ironed both sides of the border and continued stitching. It was just enough to stop the fabric from stretching. MARY MURDTER Lakewood, New Jersey After binding a quilt, I iron leftover pieces of binding flat and sew them together. I use the strips to connect pieces of leftover batting to make usable sizes. These battings are my go-to when quilting a baby or lap quilt or table topper.
